Online training course - LOLER

The 'LOLER' course explains the requirements of 'The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998'.

This is a LOLER awareness course. It does NOT qualify you to undertake LOLER inspections.

Course modules :

  • Introduction
    What is and what isn't covered.
  • Strength & Stability
    Lifting equipment and its load must have adequate strength and stability for its anticipated use.
  • Lifting Persons
    Equipment used for lifting people must be such as to prevent people being crushed, trapped, struck or falling from the carrier.
  • Positioning & Installation
    Permanent lifting equipment must be installed and mobile lifting equipment must be positioned in such a way as to reduce the risk of the equipment or a load striking a person, or from a load drifting, falling freely, or being released unintentionally.
  • Marking
    Lifting equipment must be clearly marked to indicate its safe working load (SWL).
  • Lifting Operations
    Every lifting operation must be properly planned by a competent person, appropriately supervised and carried out in a safe manner.
  • Examination & Inspection
    The extent of examinations and inspections will depend on an assessment of the risks based on the type of lifting equipment, where it is installed and how it is to be used.
  • Reports & Defects
    Competent persons conducting a thorough examination or inspection should notify the employer as soon as possible of any serious and significant defects found in lifting equipment.
  • Keeping Information
    Reports of thorough examinations, the current record of inspection and other documents, should be readily available to inspectors from the relevant enforcing authority.
  • Self Test
    20 questions covering each of the previous modules. A certificate is offered if the test is passed.

The 'LOLER' course takes approximately 80 minutes to complete. You are purchasing one copy of this course, with one attempt at the test at the end.

Self Assessment

The course contains an interactive self assessment with mutiple choice questions to test your understanding of the contents of the course. On successful completion of the test, you will receive a downloadable certificate of competency which you may print.

How to buy and do the course

Each course costs £14.95+vat (£17.94) which you order and pay for online. Payment is via paypal, which allows you to use a debit or credit card. We are not given any of the payment or personal details.

When you purchase a course - you are buying one copy of the course which contains tutorial material and a test. The test has a passmark of 75%, and you get one go at the test. If you fail it, you must buy another copy and have another go.
